The book for young team leaders
Our employees make Batenburg. Associated with energetic people with a passion and eye for creative solutions. All teams work together with great drive, enthusiasm and engagement. Training young team leaders is an essential part thereof. We also encourage young talent outside our organisation.
In 2019, we came into contact with Jelle van der Lugt, a student of Technical Administration at Delft University of Technology. At the age of 24, he was hired as a team leader in TU Delft’s Vattenfall Solar Team. He was given the exciting task to build a solar-powered car with a team of students that will beat the competition in an eight-day race in South Africa. But how do you actually lead a team?
He spoke about this with Ralph van de Broek. But also about responsibility in a larger organisation. This conversation can be found in Jelle’s new book The book for young team leaders. In this book, Jelle shares his experiences and describes six certainties he has discovered to start working with conviction as a beginning manager. A short quote from Ralph in the book:

A short quote from the book:
‘I feel responsible for the entire organisation. I also consciously feel this final responsibility. On the one hand, there is the responsibility to ensure that a company that has existed for 100 years remains successful for the next 100 years, but there is also a broader responsibility: that of the employees and their families, as well as a social responsibility.’
